2020 – Boat building and shipbuilding in Risør – tour and lecture 15. juli og 29. juli 2020

The tour lasts approximately 75 mins and is a walking tour in the town centre of Risør. The guide is Lars Grønvold, who is a boat builder himself, and is one of the organisers of the Risør Wooden Boat Festival.
Along the harbour we meet upon the cannon boat, “Kanonjolla”, a replica of a small coastal defence vessel from the Napoleonic wars. The cannon that it carries on its transom is not a replica, it is real and it is 200 years old, and is still used to fire gunpowder salutes.
If available, we will stop by the Colin Archer rescue vessel “Risør II”. At 105 years, she is still sailing strong and is a valuable cultural heritage.
The next stop is the town hall where Lars will hold an interesting lecture on Risør’s rich boat building and ship building history, and how that history still lives with us today.
Lastly we walk down to the main square to take in the picturesque atmosphere of the town centre and view the traditional small wooden boats that are moored there.
